Rahul Gupta

My name is Rahul Gupta, and I'm a proud City Year Chicago alum. I served during the 2008 school year at Reavis Elementary in the Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago. I joined City Year after learning about them during a service trip to New York City during my junior year in high school. I was inspired by the passion exhibited and the desire for change in schools around this country. I learned so much my corps year and also met my partner in crime, my beautiful wife, Kato. Since our corps year, I went back to school and finished my undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from Columbia College Chicago. I began my teaching career at Tilden Career Community High School, a former City Year Chicago school. I taught high school English for two years in the Back of the Yards community. I then spent a year teaching freshmen English at The Latin School of Chicago. Currently, I am a middle school Reading & Language Arts teacher at Wood Oaks Junior High School in Northbrook, Illinois. I also coach 7th grade basketball, this being my third year coaching. This is my fourth year on the Alumni Board and second serving as the chair.

The Bridge Builder community is a group of City Year alumni and champions that donate yearly to support the work of City Year Chicago AmeriCorps members.

The Bridge Builder community is a group of City Year alumni and champions that donate yearly to support the work of City Year Chicago AmeriCorps members. Bridge Builder donations are various levels of gifts to honor several alumni legacies.

Bridge building is a powerful metaphor, and tool for social change. Seeing and making connections“ whether among people or ideas is a hallmark of bridge builders, whose lives are rooted in values and who dedicate their time and energy to causes larger than themselves. For perhaps every societal breakthrough, there was someone who came before, who mentored others or offered the world a new idea. Bridge builders bring out the best in others by connecting resources and talents to great and worthy causes, especially anticipating the needs of future generations. Bridge builders use the wisdom and experience they have gleaned for the benefit of others, even those whom they may never meet. Seek to encourage, to connect, to strategize, and to share a vision with those who will come after.

All proceeds will go to support City Year Chicago's work to keep Chicago Public School students in school and on track to succeed. All gifts made until December 31st 2016 will be matched dollar for dollar (up to $1,000) through a generous alumni challenge grant. Join us in supporting the next generation of Bridge Builders in Chicago.

Yours in service,
City Y
