A fundraising campaign for City Year Chicago

The Bridge Builder community is a group of City Year alumni and champions that donate yearly to support the work of City Year Chicago AmeriCorps members. Bridge Builder donations are various levels of gifts to honor several alumni legacies.

Bridge building is a powerful metaphor, and tool for social change. Seeing and making connections“ whether among people or ideas is a hallmark of bridge builders, whose lives are rooted in values and who dedicate their time and energy to causes larger than themselves. For perhaps every societal breakthrough, there was someone who came before, who mentored others or offered the world a new idea. Bridge builders bring out the best in others by connecting resources and talents to great and worthy causes, especially anticipating the needs of future generations. Bridge builders use the wisdom and experience they have gleaned for the benefit of others, even those whom they may never meet. Seek to encourage, to connect, to strategize, and to share a vision with those who will come after.

All proceeds will go to support City Year Chicago's work to keep Chicago Public School students in school and on track to succeed. All gifts made until December 31st 2016 will be matched dollar for dollar (up to $1,000) through a generous alumni challenge grant. Join us in supporting the next generation of Bridge Builders in Chicago.

Yours in service,
City Y

About the Organization

Through our data-driven approach and by coming together with our partners and schools, City Year is continuing to make a measurable impact in the lives of the students and communities we’re serving.

City Year’s school-based model is called Whole School Whole Child. Corps members tutor students, serve as an additional resource for teachers in classrooms and lead after school programs and school-wide initiatives to improve student achievement and school culture. As near-peers (younger than teachers, but older than pupils) corps members are uniquely positioned to form a strong bond with students to help them succeed. City Year works in partnership with school staff to regularly monitor student performance on the early warning indicators — attendance, behavior and course performance, the ABC’s — which research shows can identify students at risk of dropping out as early as sixth grade. This continuous process of data-informed intervention allows City Year to customize the types and intensity of supports corps members provide to meet students’ specific needs, academically and...
