Around this time every year, my Facebook memories are flooded with pink. I took my first step, in my very first breast cancer walk more than 15 years in memory of my Pappy. I continued to put one foot in front of the other for so many years for my friends diagnosed so young, for the ones that called me when their mothers passed away, for the ones that were scared. I went to Project LEAD training to be a better advocate and took breast health training to teach groups how to do better self-checks. I became certified in Yoga 4 Cancer teacher to give back to my local yoga community.
Breast cancer is more than pink ribbons, pink pizza boxes, and pink bags of chips. It’s more than social media games about bra colors. It’s more than October. It’s sitting with your friend during her chemo treatment,.. or sitting in tears as you read about your other friend’s life lesson of the week (and you want to read them, they are insightful and witty… and hard, because she has no false illusions about the future of her diagnoses)…. Or the very real joy when your friends celebrate a cancerversary.
This October, I am walking again. I will be participating in the National Breast Center Foundation’s Walk to Bust Breast Cancer. I would love your support.
The National Breast Center combines advanced technology and over a decade of specialized surgical training with a truly personalized focus on breast health. Individual risk assessment and screening plans, BRCA gene testing, onsite diagnostics,.
Breast cancer doesn’t need more pink ribbons.

Every Step You Take Helps Someone in Need
Please join us for the 6th Annual Walk to Bust Cancer! Last year was an amazing demonstration of the love and support our community has for helping others.
We are excited to welcome walkers and supporters back to Fort Hunt Park this year along with our virtual walkers!
We recognize that we have gained suporters across these United States who were thrilled to join us "virtually" for our month long "Walk to Bust Cancer" last year. This year we offer TWO OPTIONS: Walk with us on October 24 at the park or pick your day wherever you are.
Another event we want to carry forward will be the "Angel Wings" travelling around the community, raising awareness and supporting the Walk to Bust Cancer fund raising. The Angel Wing Challenge is back. Schedules will be updated at http://www.walktobustcancer.org/
We raise funds to support, within our local community, women, men and families who need assistence in screening, diagnosis and treatment for Breast Cancer. This is our 6th year and we are proud of all the people we have been able to help because of your participation. We have been able to help women and men who have lost their jobs and insurance coverage to get proper screening and treatment for breast cancer. Waiting for care creates a greater risk for Late stage detection and cancer advancing and spreading. Help us make a difference.
This is the single biggest fundraiser for the National Breast Center Foundation. Funds raised with this year’s Walk to Bust Cancer will allow us to provide care that directly benefits our community and far beyond.
