What's next, Doc?

We need your help assisting Dr. Arik Mawien build a secure perimeter wall around his maternity clinic in South Sudan. The Chibak Clinic is in an open area near a roadside in Lou-Ariik and unfortunately has a problem with thieves stealing medicines, lightbulbs, and even an exterior water tank! By building a perimeter wall, we will instill a sense of peace and security within the compound as well as confidence in Dr. Arik and his staff. Women who have been afraid to come to the clinic at night will know they can deliver their babies in a safe enclosure.

All of us at the International Health and Peace Initiative are inspired by Dr. Arik Mawien's dedication to maternal health care  in his remote home village of Lou-Ariik. He was born in Lou-Ariik and began his education in a traditional Under-the-Tree school, but left to continue his education in Uganda. During the civil war separating South Sudan from Sudan he worked as a nurse in several hospitals. When he received a scholarship from the Wells Mountain Initiative in Vermont, he could afford to go to medical school, and when he received his medical degree he returned home to Lou Ariik. He firmly believes that all women deserve good maternal healthcare no matter where they live, and he has dedicated his life to making that possible.
