Horizons National is an award-winning, tuition-free, academic and enrichment program serving children from low-income communities on the campuses of independent schools, colleges, and universities across the country. Our mission is to improve the life trajectory of students from low-income families by instilling in them the joy of learning, the skills for success, and the inspiration to realize their dreams. 

The opportunity gap Horizons works to close is becoming an even bigger resource gap. Odds were against Horizons youth in the best of times. This year, they will likely face even more challenges – not just summer learning loss, but potentially a whole semester’s worth. What will the fall season bring for our schools? How can students catch up from all they will have lost to the COVID-19 pandemic? These are all questions we are working to answer on behalf of Horizons students and their families. 

Through both academics and social/emotional learning, when this is all over (and until then), Horizons will be best suited to close the gaps caused or widened by COVID-19 school closures. 

Horizons builds a strong sense of community. 

We make a long-term commitment to our students and families and provide ongoing support throughout the school year to stay connected. This is now more important than ever as Horizons programs work with families to meet immediate needs – such as ensuring they have resources at home to actively participate in distance learning. And it will continue as students and families eventually make the difficult transition back to school when schools re-open – from re-learning content to focusing on social/emotional learning and development.
