Our Team Story
Meet James
2020 Adapted Bike Recipient
Age 10
"I’m excited for the opportunity to receive a bike for James. My hope is that with the help of this program, James can overcome his fears of getting on a bike and riding. Our goal has always been for James to be able to do anything anyone else can do, and I hope with the right tools he will accomplish this!" - James's Mom
James receives weekly speech and occupational therapy at Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley where he works on developing daily life and communication skills: pouring into a cup, making a snack, buttoning and zipping his clothing, improved articulation and stronger intelligibility. He is also developing his core strength and his ability to pedal a bike!
His mom shares, "James has truly benefited from his years at Easterseals. The
patience and compassion that his therapists show towards him shines through. He has come so far from the beginning
when we first stepped foot in those Easterseals doors. When he
started years ago, we were lucky to get a half hour of work from him but now he
comes most days ready to do the work needed to accomplish his goals, and it
shows with his progress with his speech intelligibility and articulation, as
well as his ability now to do many life skills that seemed almost impossible
just a short time ago. He’s writing his name, dressing and undressing himself,
and working on being more independent with many of the life skills most take
for granted.
