I like to joke that I was born and raised with Planned Parenthood. My mother was (and continues to be) an active volunteer for the organization. It is her cause celebre, and it definitely became mine. It's been such a privilege to have worked for Planned Parenthood for the past (almost) six years. I see every day the incredible care our nurses and doctors provide, and our patients receive, and the extraordinary efforts of our educators who reach out to our youth, empowering them to make healthy choices that lead to healthier lives. During my time as a social worker in rural West Virginia, I also saw the profound effects on communities that did not have access to Planned Parenthood's services. I know what a difference Planned Parenthood makes. While government grants help offset the costs of our work, it is truly the support of the community that gets us the rest of the way. Costs for medications and contraceptives climb higher each year, while State grants are cut - despite the fact that for every $1 invested in family planning, $5.68 in Medicaid costs is saved! I hope you will consider becoming a part of the community of Planned Parenthood supporters. Your investment will pay tremendous dividends - improving the health of our community and empowering individuals and families.
