THIS IS YOGA... ON A MISSION!

Sunday, March 31, 2019 through Sunday, March 31, 2019

Sea Change Yoga’s inaugural Yogathon, a peer-to-peer fundraiser, will bring the Maine yoga community together to help our neighbors on Sunday, March 31 from 8:45 AM - 1:00 PM at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, ME.

Join us to fuel your soul and help SCY's mission to bring the healing power of yoga to people in substance use recovery centers, transitional housing and correctional facilities.

When we gather to practice yoga on a mission, we have the power to change lives! This fun, inspiring community event will feature renowned teachers from across New England including - Jacqui BonwellJen Queally, Katie Beane + Terry Lacy..

Register as an individual or create a team of friends and experience the magic of this powerful event while making an impact on your community.

Our goal is to raise $35,000 and each participant is asked to create a fundraising page and raise at least $199 from friends and family before April 30th. This is yoga… on a mission!

"If you knew what it's like to be in prison, then you would know how much we value Sea Change Yoga." Woman @ Southern Maine Re-Entry Center

"I have always struggled with ADD, anxiety, and worries. Since practicing with Sea Change Yoga for the first time in my life, I don't struggle with any of that.  It's changed my whole life." Will, SCY Student @ Portland Recovery Community Center

About the Organization

Sea Change Yoga is a nonprofit yoga service organization based in Portland, ME. We bring the evidence based practices of yoga and meditation to those who have experienced trauma, are under-served and marginalized, and in need of the emotional regulation and increased physical and mental health that yoga and meditation practice provides.

We currently teach 24 trauma-informed yoga classes each week to over 250 students at residential treatment facilities, substance use recovery centers, correctional institutions.

Our trauma-informed teaching strategies are designed to be uniquely effective for students with trauma in their background. We are modifying the elements of traditional yoga to facilitate mindfulness, maximize tolerance, build empowerment, and cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body.

These simple, yet powerful tools of transformation reduce stress and anxiety, support the addiction recovery process, help break the cycle of substance abuse and incarceration, and so much more.
