Please help support the health of the queer community by donating to Callen-Lorde's Rainbow Run Virtual Run/Walk fundraiser, for which I will be running 10K on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Last year, friends and family helped raise $710 for our team, Glow Your Mind. This year, as you know, your help is needed more than ever. Callen-Lorde, a community health center and critical member of this nation's "shadow medical safety net," (see NY Times Magazine article link below) that with depleted funds boldly faces impossible odds in the midst of a pandemic that disproportionately affects queer communities of color. Nearly 1/5 of Callen-Lorde's patients (18,000 last year) live with HIV/AIDS, and many with hepatitis and other chronic illnesses that place our community at high risk for COVID-related complications. A large proportion of patients are currently homeless. While being inexplicably turned down for a PPP loan, Callen-Lorde is also missing out on a substantial portion of its income as services billed to publicly-funded insurance programs are being reimbursed at a fraction of their usual rate due to unjust telehealth regulations. Meanwhile, nurses and doctors are cleaning makeshift hotel-hospital rooms themselves, other staff are donating paid time off, and administrators are taking pay cuts. The only thing folx aren't doing, is giving up hope. Any contribution you make will help relieve and embolden this proud and unrelenting agency, 350 strong, currently braving the front lines of this pandemic as the premiere LGBTQ community health center on the planet, driven by sheer willpower and love. Your support would mean so much to me, many thanks in advance. peace, justice & health, Felix https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/06/magazine/community-health-centers-covid.html

Join us for the 5th annual Rainbow Run! A virtual spring 5K/10K run/walk supporting Callen-Lorde Community Health Center!

Saturday, May 09, 2020 through Saturday, May 16, 2020

At Callen-Lorde, the health and welfare of our patients, supporters, and staff is our top priority. Due to the unpredictability of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and consistent with the guidance we have received from New York City and state government officials, including restrictions on large public gatherings, the 2020 Rainbow Run is going virtual!

The virtual version of this event will take place between May 9th and May 16th. Prior to your run/walk you will receive your personal bib number in the mail. You can choose any day during that week to complete your run/walk in the convenience of your own neighborhood. We urge you to follow social distancing guidelines and avoid large crowds while you complete your 5K or 10K. At the completion of your run/walk, you can easily upload your finishing time and photos to our race results platform. Directions on uploading your results will be sent prior to May 9th. To help you track the timing of your run/walk, there are many free apps that you can download to your smartphone: Runstastic, RunKeeper, MapMyRun, etc. All participants will receive a Rainbow Run finisher medal when we are able to accommodate distribution.

We’re staying busy here at Callen-Lorde by continuing our regular services remotely and addressing COVID-19 concerns for our 18,000 patients. If you haven’t yet, and you’re looking for a way to support our response to this crisis or if you’re looking to stay active, consider signing up for this year’s run/walk, sharing it with your networks, and starting or continuing your fundraising efforts.Registration is $35 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K.
