The New Hampshire Theatre Project isn't a typical theatre. NHTP believes that theatre can change lives. It isn't just there to entertain, but to challenge and ask its community to participate, to care for itself and to advocate on its behalf and those that can't advocate for themselves. The theme of the 2019-20 season was ‘Can one person make a difference?’ and all of the programming was aimed at asking that question of the audience and challenging them to think of how they can make a difference in their community. That’s why I am so proud to be a part of such a unique and necessary organization and I ask for your consideration in contributing what you can!

From Pandemic to Provocative Theatre

 

It may be months or even years before we are able to join together again to experience the greatest gift of theatre: living, breathing actors in close contact with each other as well as with the audience, creating an opportunity for human beings to learn from and understand each other at the profound, empathic, and visceral level that is virtually impossible in any other form of artistic expression. In the meantime, what’s a theatre company to do?

 

Join with NHTP as we discover beauty within the uncertainty of our times. We’re developing a new play as a catalyst for turning the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic into provocative theatre. It may be presented on a virtual platform stories, on our stage before an audience in the time-honored way, or maybe a bit of both. We’re also working on a collaboration with NH Public Radio to create an audio theatre opportunity.

 

We’ve titled this new play We Don’t Know What This Is Yet because we truly don’t know so early in its development. Drawing on the traditions of docudrama and our experience creating works that tap the voices of the community, we are gathering crowd-sourced stories of living in and through the pandemic, bearing witness to the actual experiences as they happen. From these stories, our play will grow—with your help.

 

Our 2019-20 season theme is Can One Person Make a Difference and your donation will make a Big Difference in helping NHTP create this living, breathing theatrical document. It will help support NHTP artists (many of whom have lost all of their freelance work) AND it will allow us to open up this project to any members of the community who want to participate.

All financial supporters and story contributors will be recognized  in as many ways as possible, which may include NHTP’s website and eblasts, in print, on-air, social media and in any production credits.
