For the first six years that I lived in Missoula, my family of 3, (and then my family of 4), received SNAP benefits. Because of the high cost of housing combined with a shortage of jobs paying enough to be able to put one (and then two) children in day care, I opted to stay home with my kiddos to focus on raising food and a family. SNAP was essential in providing peace of mind and allowed our financial resources to be spent on housing or the small crises that arise from time to time. The ability to use SNAP at Farmer's Markets was something that I was amazed by to begin with, and when the Double SNAP Dollars program began, it was beyond awesome!!!! These days, both my kids are in school and I work for a non-profit that pays a living wage, but I know first hand how essential this benefit is to the health and well being of families. Please consider donating to support Double SNAP Dollars which doubles the purchasing power of SNAP benefits spent on fresh fruits and vegetables at participating locations in Missoula.

About this Campaign

16,000 Missoulians struggle to put healthy food on their tables. Together, we can change that.

Double SNAP Dollars envisions a Montana where everyone, regardless of income, is inspired and empowered to incorporate local, nutritious produce into their diet.

134,000 Montanans, including 16,000 Missoulians, experience hunger, which means they also struggle to put healthy food on their tables. For these fellow Montanans, their limited incomes affect the quantity - and quality - of food they can eat. Together, we can change that.

Everyone deserves to eat nourishing food that makes them feel good. Double SNAP Dollars helps make that happen by making fresh, local produce affordable for all. Initiated in 2015, the program doubles buying power at farmers’ markets, on CSA shares, and at the Missoula Community Food Co-op for Montanans who access Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) benefits each month, all while supporting local farmers and ranchers. Double SNAP has been so well-received that program participation grew by 100% in the past year.

“I love the fact that I don’t have to choose between eating healthy and having enough to last all month!” – Double SNAP Dollar participant

Growing participation in Double SNAP means more low income Montanans are accessing local, healthy food – a testament to the interconnectedness and vibrancy of our communities. However, demand for the program will soon outweigh funding for the remainder of the 2017 season, leaving many who access fresh produce and local food through Double SNAP with fewer options.

Together, we can meet the high demand for healthy, local food. We need your help to make sure all Montanans experiencing hunger can afford to buy the local produce that nourishes healthy bodies and strengthens healthy communities.

We’re raising $16,000 for the 16,000 Missoulians who experience hunger.

Every dollar donated means one more Montanan has greater access to the healthy food we all crave and deserve.

Any additional dollars raised will be used to support Double SNAP Dollars programs throughout Montana in 2018.

Will you help us ensure that all Montanans have the opportunity to eat well and be healthy for more seasons to come?
