About Clean-Up Week

The City of Louisville, in cooperation with Winston County, is partnering with Winston Strong to hold a week-long community wide cleanup effort. Each Spring the community participates in a program titled the Great American Cleanup as an effort to Keep Mississippi Beautiful; however, this year we want to take this campaign to a whole new level.

The week for the community-wide effort has been designated as the week of April 25 - 30, 2016, the two year anniversary week of the tornado disaster. The landfill will be open on Saturday, April 30, to accommodate the cleanup efforts. This cleanup campaign does not limit cleanup efforts to this week, nor is it limited to only certain areas of Winston County; however, a very special emphasis will be placed on the tornado-stricken areas. We want to provide as much support and organization as possible to try and eliminate as many scars of the devastation of April 28, 2014.

This is a community-wide effort being led by Winston Strong. Projects must be clearly identified and open for everyone to participate. Volunteers are needed. Donations are welcome. Equipment and equipment operators are in high demand. By working with Winston Strong, the City of Louisville and Winston County are hopeful to accomplish great things throughout the community.

Throughout the path of the tornado still remains much evidence of the disaster and hazardous situations are apparent. We would like to accomplish eliminating hazardous situations, cut damaged trees, remove debris, pile to remove or burn vegetative debris, and remove concrete slabs where allowed.

The ultimate goal of the Cleanup Week is to provide assistance where needed while closing yet another chapter of recovery in our community.
