About Rescue Team Volunteer

Sometimes people who find injured or abandoned wildlife are unable to bring them to WRR, in San Antonio or Kendalia. In some cases, these animals are ensnared or trapped without a means to free themselves, are in danger of further injury to themselves or others. Generally, Rescue Team volunteers must be wiling to take direction from animal care specialists, work in a team, and be sensitive to the needs of an animal in stress.

Rescue volunteers are considered “on-call” for an animal emergency. Efforts are made by the WRR dispatcher to match proximity of the rescue site to the location of the volunteer, principally by zip code associated in your volunteer profile. Many times of the year, rescue calls may occur while volunteers are performing other duties on location and team orientation includes ride-alongs until experience, skills and comfort levels are obtained for solo rescues.
