About Free School Holiday Programme
The Free School Holiday Program provides opportunities for young people ages 11 - 17 to engage with their local community through positive, fun, hands on and age-appropriate volunteering activities.
Each program is one week long and takes place during school holiday periods. Programs are free and hosted in different locations around Dunedin to enable accessibility for a wide variety of young people to attend.
Activities can include, socializing animals at the SPCA, community gardening, beach clean-ups, sports activities, art activities, creating a radio show and more.
We need volunteers to help with:
Volunteer Youth Worker Assistant
The Volunteering Otago Free School Holiday Program Volunteer will assist the Youth Volunteer Coordinator to deliver the program to a group of 11-17 year olds. This involves working alongside the Youth Volunteer Coordinator to assist groups of young volunteers to participate in a series of community and voluntary based activities.

• To arrive on-time for the program. To manage own time effectively in order to meet this requirement.
• To seek/read/attend to information on the program planned. To know your role during each session.
• To communicate and co-operate with the Youth Volunteer Coordinator during the program.
To be generally helpful and pro-active.
• To form and maintain a helpful relationships with the Youth Volunteer Coordinator.
• To provide feedback to Manager and Youth Volunteer Coordinator on your experiences as a volunteer.
• To assist in the clean-up after activities, and after program is completed.
Qualifications: This is an entry level position
Experience with working with young people is an advantage, but is not necessary. The volunteer must have excellent verbal communication skills. Knowledge of a variety of fun group games and icebreakers is also an advantage.
The volunteer must be honest and work well as part of a team. They must have a passion for young people and for community and volunteer work. Volunteers need to be co-operative, resourceful, energetic and confident!
Nobody with a criminal record involving violence, abuse or neglect will be accepted as a Volunteering Otago School Holiday Volunteer.
Appointees will be entitled to:
Training: December 13 2013
Reimbursement: A contribution of up to $5.00 toward travel costs is paid for each day. The center also reimburses all pre-approved out-of-pocket expenses.
Support: From the Manager and the Youth Volunteer Coordinator.
Supervision: Administrative supervision will be given by the Manager and the
Youth Volunteer Coordinator.
