Hosted by: Volunteer Starkville
Do you want to volunteer as a mentor? Are you already volunteering as a mentor but not exactly sure how or what to do? Volunteer Starkville is hosting a community mentor training on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the Starkville Sportsplex. This mentor training will feature six local mentor experts that will cover a wide range of mentoring topics. Once you have participated in this training, you should have the knowledge and resources to go forward, volunteer as a mentor, and achieve a successful relationship with your mentee!
The mentor training will cover the following topics:
• Need for Mentors in Our Community
• Role of a Mentor
• Research that Speaks to Mentoring's Effectiveness
• Strength-Based Mentoring
• Why Youth Need Mentors
• Benefits of a Mentorship
• 10 Principles of Effective Mentoring
• Establishing Trust & a Relationship with Your Mentee
• Mentoring Youth & At-Risk Youth
Each training participant will receive a Starkville Community Mentor Guidebook as well as dinner! Also, each participant will complete a Mentor Interest Sheet so Volunteer Starkville can match you with a nonprofit in need of mentors that best align with your interests!
