About Keep Kern County Cool Fan Drive

The Volunteer Center has our fan/donation collection day scheduled for Wednesday, June 15th at KGET TV 17 Compassion Corner. This is our 21st year doing this event and we have given away over 15,500+ fans over the years. This worthwhile event collects fans/monetary donations that directly benefits our senior and disabled over age 60 community. VOLUNTEERS assist with collecting fans for Kern County's senior and disabled populations during our annual "Keep Kern County Cool Fan Drive" held this year on June 15th. This is an "all-day" televised event to encourage community members to donate new fans or monetary donations to purchase fans for Kern County's seniors and disabled. Many of the recipients live on very limited incomes and cannot afford to operate cooling sources in their homes. Kern County experiences extreme heat during the summer months and many people experience health problems due to the heat. VOLUNTEERS assist on the day of the drive by greeting donors at the Compassion Corner at 2120 L Street, unloading fans from their vehicles and collecting donations from community citizens. Other VOLUNTEERS are needed to assist on the distribution days (Friday, June 17th from 8am-2pm and the following week Mon-Wed 8am-2pm) at the Volunteer Center, 1311 Eye Street. The distribution days are a drive-thru format so the seniors don't have to get out of their cars.
