About Volunteer & Auxiliary Services

The Volunteer Program at Virginia Hospital Center has a place for everyone. You may be retired, involved in your career, a stay at home parent, young or old, male or female. Our Hospital has varied opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. Volunteers work in over 40 different areas within our healthcare system.

Programs & Services
Virginia Hospital Center has two programs from which to choose: 1) The Auxiliary provides selected services and programs, and conducts fundraising on behalf of the Hospital. The Auxiliary is a membership organization and requires limited annual dues. 2) The Volunteer Services group consists of active students and adults who assist staff with direct patient care.

Areas Served By The Auxiliary Members Include:
-Wheelchair Transportation Escort Services
-Gift Shop
-Bookmobile
-Reception Desks for Information, Emergency, Laboratory, Surgical/Intensive Care and Outpatient Surgery
-Outpatient Clinic

Areas Which Utilize Student & Adult Volunteers include:
-Patient Representative Services
-Inpatient Hospital Units: Medical Surgical Unit, Nursery, Women & Infant Health, Pediatric/Young Adult, Oncology
-Outpatient Services: Emergency Department, Rehabilitation, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Urgent Care Center, Radiology
-Specialized Services: Health Promotion, Cancer Resource Center, Patient Relations, Public Affairs & Marketing, Health Information Management, Medical Library, Volunteer Services Office, Nursing Education, Nurse Recruitment, Computer Support, Virginia Hospital Center Medical Brigade

**Must be 16 and up, though some jobs require the volunteers to be at least 18 years old.
**We ask for a minimum commitment of four hours a week, one day a week for at least six months duration. Beyond that, it is up to you.
