US Energy has partnered with the Gem State Disc Golf Club to host the Ann Morrison Classic on May 22nd at Ann Morrison Park.
The intent of the event is based around a community enhancement project to raise enough money to build or establish a clubhouse on or near the park ($200,000 goal). As you may or may not know, disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the region and one of the most equitable. Disc/Frisbee golf is one of the lowest costs to play and typically only requires buying a disc.
This tournament has three positive community enhancement outcomes associated with a disc/frisbee golf (multipurpose) clubhouse to go along with tremendous community awareness benefits.
1. It allows disc golf to become a recognized high school sport. Increasing the amount of youth who are able to utilize the park which has extremely low barriers to entry, the most equitable sport.
2. Improving park resources and building community capacity.
3. Allowing the disc course and club to host larger tournaments with better incentives to participate.
The GSDGC & Steve Loyd (Director) have been stewards of the course for 11 years now, ran numerous tournaments, and this is their dream.
