Real Men Read is a volunteer reading program that brings in MENtors from the Wyoming Valley community to read to kindergarten students for one hour each month to help foster early literacy.
We are looking for a school-based volunteer to assist the Real Men Read program coordinator with on-site program responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Commit to assisting with weekly reading sessions from 9:00 am - 12:00am am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and (occasional) Fridays at elementary schools within the Wilkes-Barre Area, Wyoming Valley West, and Greater Nanticoke Area School Districts during the months of October to April.
•Greet and guide MENtor volunteers to assigned classrooms for all reading sessions.
•Transport books to and from classrooms for students (to be passed out at the end of every reading session).
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Must have Act 34: PA Criminal Record Clearance, Act 151: PA Child Abuse Clearance, and Act 114: FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.
•Comfortable working with Pre-K through kindergarten grade students.
BENEFITS:
•Volunteers will know their time is making a difference with young children who otherwise might not have access to grade-appropriate reading materials.
•The children enjoy story time and literacy rich activities and will have access to more age-appropriate books in the school setting.
