About Reading Buddy

Thirty minutes a week can change a life!

Studies show that students who read at or above grade level by fourth grade are much more likely to graduate from high school. Yet an estimated 70 percent of Michigan fourth graders aren't meeting that standard.

Help a young reader succeed by becoming a Volunteer Ready Buddy! While reading and working with Kindergarten or 1st grade students, volunteers will:
-Reinforce reading strategies
-Improve letter-sound association
-Improve reading language comprehension
-Develop a positive relationship with a child

Interested volunteers must commit to 30-40 minutes per week during any weekday (M-F) at their desired elementary school across the region. Districts with dedicated Reading Buddy programs include:
Battle Creek
Comstock
Galesburg-Augusta
Lakeview

Other schools may have similar programs that we can help you get started with. Time slots vary by school and are available in both the morning and afternoon beginning and scheduling is flexible.

Before entering the classroom, volunteers must complete an application and background check and also must attend an hour long training session to be arranged by the Literacy Coach at the school of your choice.

Be part of the change! Express interest below and you will receive a call with more information about this opportunity.
