About EVENT: 21 Day Equity Challenge - Come be a part of this great virtual event!

Hello!
United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region would like to invite you to join us in a community wide 21-Day Equity Challenge, a self-guided learning journey that runs from October 19-November 16.

The recent release of the ALICE and Black Households Data, https://changethestory.org/black-households-face-greater-financial-risk/clearly, illustrates the racial inequities that are deeply rooted in our national, state, and local systems and institutions. During the 21-Day Equity Challenge, participants explore the history and impact of racism on people’s lived experience in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, and the different ways that bias, prejudice, privilege, and oppression show up in our everyday lives.

The Challenge is simple, free, and anonymous.
Participants commit to deepening their understanding of, and willingness to confront racism for 21 weekdays, with content delivered daily by email. The Challenge will raise awareness, change understanding, and provide ways to get involved.

What to expect during the 21-Day Equity Challenge
•For 21 days you’ll commit to deepening your understanding of and willingness to confront racism.
•During every morning of the challenge, you'll receive an email "prompt" with readings, videos and/or podcasts. You are encouraged to take about 10 to 15 minutes each day with the material in the prompt.
•Explore this work on your own, with friends and family, or organization-wide. Download our discussion guide at https://portal.gkuw.org/servlet/eAndar.WebFileLibrary/3630/3536343334/2020%20Equity%20Challenge%20Discussion%20Guide.pdf and hold your own discussion group. Or, join United Way in discussion via Zoom on Oct. 23 from 11am-12pm at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0kcOqtqjwjGNUwOCVJpkDn99hRohntpuxm and Nov. 6 from 11am-12pm at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwrceCorzwiH9Tz3XKZUCoj3HyNKPjFOrVv.
•Capture your daily reflections and actions using our activity log. Go to https://portal.gkuw.org/servlet/eAndar.WebFileLibrary/3630/3536343334/2020%20Equity%20Challenge%20Discussion%20Guide.pdf to download the log.
•Share your reflections and "aha" moments using the hashtag #miuwequitychallenge.
•You’ll receive an invitation to join our 21-Day Equity Challenge Facebook group so you can ask questions, or discuss the content with others in the community.
Go to https://changethestory.org/leading-with-equity/ to register, and encourage your friends and family to take the challenge with you!

In addition to your participation, we’d appreciate your help in getting the word out about the Challenge. Please consider sharing within your organization, in your next newsletter, on social media, or with others in your network.

Below is a brief paragraph you can share out:
“Please join [me/my organization] as we embark on the 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge, run by United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region. As an organization, we are committed to understanding and addressing racism in our community. By taking the Challenge, made up of small daily email prompts delivered each morning from Oct. 19-Nov. 16, we can all easily participate in this transformative effort at our own pace.

Visit https://changethestory.org/leading-with-equity/ to register with your email address.”

Thank you, and we look forward to learning with you!
