About SHIPs Counselor
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) is a counseling program designed to answer about health insurance. Whether it is Medicare or supplemental insurance, volunteers are trained to answer questions, compare policies, and organize paperwork.
SHIP volunteers help citizens and caregivers understand Medicare benefits; evaluate Medicare+ Choice or Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) options; and explore long-term care options.
Application Process
Potential counselors are required to complete 20 hours of training in Medicare information.
