About Project REACH 2021-2022
Project REACH (Reaching Education And Changing Healthcare) is a partnership between UMMC and Barrack H. Obama Magnet Elementary school. The goal of this partnership is to enhance the teaching and learning of science concepts at the elementary school level and expose a diverse group of students to educational and career opportunities in the medical sciences. Volunteers are needed from the SGSHS to teach science lessons once a month to students in grades 3-5.
***Lessons for January, March and May 2022 will be posted in December.

Sign up to teach a lesson below. The task description gives you the teaching objectives/outcomes for your lesson - the rest is up to you!
Dr. Broome will email you with additional details at least one week prior to your scheduled teaching day.

Teach a 30-minute lesson to two 4th grade classes, to achieve the following outcomes:
● Students will define the term valid health information.

● Students will predict the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces on the speed and direction of an object in motion.

Teach a 30-minute lesson to two 5th grade classes, to achieve the following outcomes:
● Students will define the terms mixture, solution, solute, solvent, dissolve, and concentration. Students will describe the difference between a mixture and a solution.
● Students will describe the relative concentration of a solution by comparing the amount of solute and solvent used to make two or more solutions.
● Students will explain the role of temperature, particle size, stirring, and surface area in dissolving a solute.
