When a crisis takes place, our instinct is to instantly respond — to extend a helping hand. Together, we can alleviate some of the suffering of our fellow New Yorkers who are still without power, food, and other necessities.

We need volunteers to help with:

  • Volunteer (Hurricane Sandy Relief Collection and Drive)
Location: Food Warehouse of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, 5361 Preston Court, Brooklyn
The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty is requesting the following essential items to be sent to its food warehouse: toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, diapers, wipes, baby formula, canned vegetables and fruits, nuts, hand sanitizer, peanut butter, and shelf-stable milk. Please note: these are the only items Met Council is accepting.
  • Friendly Visitor (Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort)
Location: Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center, 45 Manetto Hill Road, Plainview
Contact: For additional information, contact Sue Tregerman at 1.516.822.3535.
The Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center needs volunteers to bring food to local clients, as well as offer companionship and a helping hand.
