A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT
New Hampshire is ground zero for the national opioid epidemic where prescription opioids, heroin and fentanyl are taking more lives than any other cause. In 2016 alone 458 of our loved ones were taken from us due opioid overdoses. This epidemic is especially prevalent in Dover, NH and the rest of Strafford County.
BUT THERE'S A PROBLEM
While many dealing with substance use disorders (SUD) have received treatment, most have not due to a variety of reasons including lack of insurance, lack of beds, fear of stigma or lack of will. Regardless, these individuals rely on a safe haven to be with peers in recovery and to attend 12-Step meetings and other modes of recovery.
The Triangle Club in Dover NH, has been such a safe haven since 1984, serving over 200 visitors each day. We recently completed renovations to double the meeting space at the Triangle Club as we lacked the capacity to serve the increasing needs of those in recovery from addiction.
HERE'S WHAT WE'RE DOING ABOUT IT
We are directly addressing the NH opioid epidemic, saving lives every day by providing a welcoming meeting center for those who suffer from substance use disorders. We also offer programs for families and loved ones. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and safe environment to promote the spiritual, physical and mental health of people in recovery from addiction to alcohol, heroin and other substances." We hold 47 recovery meetings each week with 200-250 people attending each day. There is no charge to attendees.
The objective of our project is to enhance the safe place for those in recovery to call their own and to dignify the existing meeting space with cosmetic enhancements. We will also use these funds to enact a community outreach effort (events, flyers, brochures and newsletters). We envision ourselves a hub for all local recovery centers. We will need a small fund to draw from to host guest speakers such as grief counselors and health care professionals.
We are in the business of saving lives. Recovery works.
