About Get Dirty At Seattle Community Farm

Come join TWIF as we play in the dirt at Seattle Community Farm! Who doesn't like getting a little dirty while doing good? The sun has finally begun to show up here in Seattle, so let's go help out in the fresh air. There will be no mud pies, we promise, but what there will be is some tending & maintaining of the gardens.
The Seattle Community Farm at Rainier Vista is a creative project that transformed an unused acre of land into a productive farm which educates, inspires, and increases food security for residents of Southeast Seattle. The 10,000 pounds of food grown at the Seattle Community Farm each year is cultivated by and shared with residents of the Rainier Vista community and wider Rainier Valley neighborhood, as well as the Rainier Valley Food Bank.
You’ll learn about how food is grown, food security, organic farming and food justice by working at the Seattle Community Farm. Tasks vary based on the day and season, but you may help prepare soil and garden beds, plant vegetable starts and seeds, maintain crops, weed, compost, irrigate, harvest, wash produce, and/or distribute it to the local food bank.
Rainier Valley faces a higher rate of food insecurity than Seattle as a whole, and overall greater economic disparity. There are a variety of barriers that exist for low-income residents in regards to access to grocery stores, gardening space, and opportunities to learn to grow and prepare healthy foods.
Working with Lettuce Link at Solid Ground means that you are contributing to increased food security and healthy eating by helping grow fresh produce for, and with, families in the Rainier Vista neighborhood.
