About Help with Traveling Exhibit on Death, Dying and Living Well

The Wake Up to Dying Project is excited to be returning to Burlington this summer! For the second year in a row, our innovative end-of-life exhibit, complete with big white tents, will once again appear outside of the Fletcher Free Library, right in the heart of downtown Burlington from July 14 – 17. Workshops, panels and chats will be held at the Congregational Church and the library July 12 – 17.

The Wake Up to Dying Project aims to shift our cultural perspective on death from fear and avoidance toward familiarity - by inviting people to acknowledge death, be prepared for it, and live more fully for having done so. We do this by gathering and sharing first person audio stories about death, dying, and life. We bring these stories, along with related art, hands-on engagement opportunities and presentations to communities in a creative traveling exhibit.

The traveling exhibit includes a 10x20 audio story listening tent, a diverse resource area, and a version of the internationally known Before I Die Wall; workshops, panels and chats are held every day throughout the four-day event.

This exhibit runs on volunteer power -- please consider volunteering for a 2-4 hour shift to help:
- Help make the exhibit look beautiful and inviting by lending a hand with set-up each morning.
- Be a Greeter and help people explore the many ideas around death, dying, and life that the exhibit has to offer.
- Help create a warm and reflective space as a Listening
- Volunteer in our audio story tent.
- Guide visitors through the materials provided by local organizations in our resource area.
- Help us break down the exhibit at the end of each day and send us on our way to the next town after we close on Sunday!

Volunteers are needed all day everyday from 9am to 9pm, so regardless of your schedule, you can help! Community based volunteers make this a very special experience for everyone. Our aim is to provide a warm, contemplative space for visitors to feel comfortable to explore, share or simply observe. Please sign up to join us today.
