About Volunteers Needed for the Great Backyard Count in Rye

Be part of this Citizen Science project and be ready for the next Great Backyard Count in Westchester. For Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, volunteer with your family and learn how to identify and count birds in your area.

What is the Great Backyard Bird Count?

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free and easy annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. It takes place Friday, February 13-February 16, 2015.

Each checklist submitted during the GBBC helps researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society learn more about how birds are doing, and how to protect them and the environment we share. Last year, participants turned in more than 144,000 online checklists, creating the world's largest instantaneous snapshot of bird populations ever recorded.

*This is a family-friendly project for children of all ages. If you are interested in signing up as a family, please choose Sign up with a team. Thanks!
