About Support Deployed Military

Mercy College

Volunteers will have the opportunity to write letters to and create paracord survival bracelets for deployed military. The letters are essential to maintaining a high morale for our country’s service men and women.

Writing a letter is a meaningful way for Americans to show support for our Military. It only takes five minutes of your day, but will bring lasting joy to the recipients.
Not only are paracord bracelets really cool looking, they can actually be used to save a life in an emergency situation. Virtually all branches of the U.S. military use paracord (which gets its name from parachute cord and can hold up to 550 lbs. weight). The bracelet gives the person wearing it eight feet to use in an emergency--whether as a rope to lift someone or as a tourniquet to stop bleeding.
Bracelets and letters will be sent to deployed military through Operation Gratitude.

This project will take place on all 3 Mercy College campuses: Dobbs Ferry (555 Broadway Dobbs Ferry); Manhattan (West 35th between 5th & Broadway); and Bronx (1200 Waters Place Bronx).

This opportunity is an extension of Volunteer New York!’s “9/11: Serve + Remember” Day of Service event. There are almost 30 meaningful ways you can give back in your community from September 11th through the 13th and honor the memories of those who were lost by being a part of this community-wide action event.
