About Arts & Crafts Project with Patients in White Plains

For Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, assist patients at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital with a fun Arts and Crafts project to lift their spirits and help them strengthen their fine motor skills.

Burke has a variety of patients, from 15 – 99 years of age ranging from knee replacements to multiple traumas that include brain injury and spinal cord injury to stroke survivors and so on. Getting the opportunity to interact with people and do something fun aids in their recovery.

Due to the weak immune systems of the patients, all volunteers must either show proof of a flu shot or wear a mask.

This project is a part of the MLK Day of Service.

About Burke Rehabilitation Hospital: Located in White Plains, New York, Burke is a 150-bed acute hospital, entirely dedicated to rehabilitation medicine. Burke treats patients who have suffered a stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation, joint replacement, complicated fracture, arthritis, cardiac and pulmonary disease, and neurological disorders. Patients are most frequently transferred to Burke from acute care hospitals once their condition is stable and they are able to participate in intense physical, occupational and speech therapy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service brings together hundreds of volunteers in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam for service projects that strengthen communities, empower individuals, bridge barriers, and create solutions. Join us and make this a day on, not a day off. http://www.volunteernewyork.org/mlk
