About The IOU Foundation at BBQ Austin

This event raises funds for the Rodeo Austin Scholarship Fund. In addition to seeking volunteers to help us cook, serve, entertain, and assist guests during the two days and nights of fundraising, we are also looking for volunteers to assist us with loading in and constructing our tent before the event. And then, also deconstruction and load out after the event.
We accept volunteer inquiries in advance and establish a day/time shift work schedule based on everyone's availability. Although several of us choose to, volunteers are NOT required to work the entire event. We want you to enjoy the festivities of the event as well.

Construction - Load In to the event
March 2, 2022 10:00am – March 3, 2022 12:00pm
This crew will help us with transporting our equipment and supplies to the event location. They will then help us construct and assemble everything under our tent in preparation for the event.
Attire is construction / casual. Please prepare for whatever the weather brings us.

Food Line Servers
March 4, 2022 11:00am – March 5, 2022 11:55pm
This crew will assist us with preparing and serving free plates of bbq to our guests, from our food serving line. There will be day and night shifts available for both Friday and Saturday.
Attire is casual, however all food servers will be required to wear a hat or hair restraint, along with food serving gloves. The shifts will be under a covered tent, however it is not climate controlled. Please prepare for whatever the weather brings us.

Construction - Load Out of the event
March 6, 2022 10:00am – 6:00pm
This crew will help us with deconstruction of our equipment and supplies that were used for the event. They will also assist us with loading all of our supplies and equipment for transport back to storage facility.

Sound Light Crew
March 2, 2022 10:00am – March 6, 2022 12:00pm
This crew will assist our Sound and Lighting team set up/load in, operate, and then tear town/load out all sound and lighting equipment that is used for our event, including live music performances. There will be multiple shifts to choose from throughout the event.

Assistant Cooks
March 2, 2022 10:00am – March 6, 2022 12:00pm
This crew will assist the Head Cooks of IOU BBQ as they cook and serve food for thousands of guests. The tasks include being in weather elements, and in smoke from grills, as well as managing the industrial sized bbq smokers that we cook on.
Additionally, we will expect all Assistant Cooks to have a Food Handlers Certification, and conduct all tasks in accordance with the state of Texas health and human services regulations. There will be several shifts to choose from.
