About The Brookwood School

WHO ARE WE?
The Brookwood School, located in Cooperstown, New York, is a not-for-profit, independent nursery and preschool licensed by the Office of Family and Child Support Services, chartered by the New York State Department of Education, and accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools. We are proud to support working families of Cooperstown and the surrounding areas, as one of the only full-time childcare offerings in Otsego County. Formally chartered as a not-for-profit independent day school in 1996, the roots of the school date back to 1981 when the Christian Hill Montessori School for Pre-School was founded. Today, The Brookwood School is a thriving daycare offering full-time enrollment for infants through pre-K.

WHAT DO WE DO?
The Brookwood School offers a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment in which children can grow socially, cognitively, physically, and emotionally within all of our programs. We strive to inspire a lifelong love of learning by providing a balance of child-directed experiences, intentional teaching, and student reflection. Our program aims to develop a child’s ability to problem solve, negotiate, investigate, and become a creative and flexible thinker. Through socialization opportunities, teachers facilitate the development of cooperation, empathy, self-regulation, and communication skills. Pre-school students attend weekly specials in art, library, and gym, along with a bi-annual concert.


HOW CAN YOU HELP?
As a not-for-profit daycare, The Brookwood School relies on grants, fundraising, and donations for classroom supplies, building maintenance, developmentally appropriate toys and materials, and tuition assistance programs for families. In years past, we were able to utilize grant money and additional funds to install a new playground for students!
