About WISH - Back-to-School Supplies Needed

The annual Summer of Service Project is the first phase of a series of community service projects to move disadvantaged children and families through school into the workforce. We have realized that the impacts of community service projects are more effective when they are long-term and the donations change as the community needs changes. Many of the children and youth in rural areas of Mississippi are not able to obtain adequate school supplies, school uniforms, and quality reading materials. In partnership with six youth centers in extremely rural areas of the Mississippi, the program staff and members are preparing school supply bags for 500 children and youth to be distributed in August 2015.

Please help make this project a success by donating any of the following items: packs of #2 pencils, packs of crayons, packs of wide-rule loose leaf paper, 3-prong folders with pockets, boxes of Kleenex, bottles of hand sanitizer, boxes of Band-Aids, safety scissors, and rulers.

All donations can be given to the AmeriCorps member, Iyeshia Haynes. Ms. Haynes is serving The Box Project, a program of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, through AmeriCorps*VISTA. To make a donation contact her at 901-626-7292 and/or [email protected]. You may also contact MDSC/A*VISTA Director, Linda Stringfellow, at 662-846-4358 and/or [email protected] for a local drop-off location.
