A fundraising campaign for Texas Health Institute

Texas Health Institute (THI) is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to finding feasible solutions to Texas’ health problems.  THI’s definition of health includes food, shelter, clothing, education, and a job with a living wage.  THI's mission is to Improve the Health of Texans and Their Communities through education, research, and health policy development.  This mission is achieved through a non-biased, non-partisan approach and multi-sector collaboration with community leaders, businesses, policy makers, healthcare providers, and consumers. 

 

THI program staff has advanced degrees in Social Work (community and administrative leadership concentration), Public Affairs, Public Health (Health Policy and Management), and undergraduate backgrounds in business administration, economics, sociology, healthcare administration and psychology.  Staff is trained in data collection, retrieval, analysis, and translation. 


Programs currently being implemented by THI include the Mountain States Regional Genetics Collaborative (MSGRC), an 8 state initiative focused on new born testing, the Southern Obesity Strategy a 16 state collaborative which results in the annual Southern Obesity Summit (SOS) a forum for learning and sharing of best practices in combating childhood obestity.  The development of online Health Training Courses for the Centers for Disease Management (Region 6) and the conduct and promotion of County Health Rankings; the development of an Oral Health plan for state of Texas and Health Equity and Health Care Reform which has recently released two new publications Advancing Health Equity in the Health Insurance Market Place; Results from Connecticuts Marketplace Health Equity Assessment Tool and In the Wake of the Affordable Care Act; Understanding Community Barriers and Facilitators to Health Care Access.

THI is also convenes the Texas Primary Care and Health Home Summit; an annual Awards in Excellence that awards schools providing healthy food and environments for students in conjunction with Texas Pediatric Society Foundation; is engaged in implementing a statewide Caregiver Initiative that provides training on advance directives; and conducts Community Health Needs Assessments for Hospitals and Communities throughout Texas.
