The Taste of Desoto is a program of the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, a 501c3 organization. The ‘Taste of Desoto' is a unique food tasting event highlighting the cuisine of approximately 40 restaurants in Desoto and surrounding counties. Each year nonprofit recipients are selected to benefit from the proceeds.
The Tenth Annual "Taste of Desoto" on April 17, 2014 is a unique food tasting event held at the Lander's Center, in Southaven, MS.
This year's recipients are: House of Grace, Heartland Hands, and Northwest Community College Hotel and Restaurant Management Technology program in the form of a Culinary Scholarship.
Our mission is to use the culinary arts and food related events to raise money for carefully selected charities in DeSoto County and the surrounding Mid-south area.
We will strive to create awareness of the mission and needs of our selected charities.

The "Taste" is a unique food tasting event highlighting the cuisine of 40 restaurants in DeSoto and surrounding counties.
The Taste of DeSoto which began in 2004 had 1,000 attendees in 2013 and raised $40,000 to benefit the designated nonprofits.
The Taste of Desoto began when local business owner and caterer, John Woods, shared his vision with Tom and Cindy Pittman of the Desoto Times-Tribune to create a culinary event that would highlight the cuisine of local restaurants and chef's, promote their business to a wider public and raise monies for local charities that may not have the infrastructure to have an annual fund-raiser. Woods and Pittman pooled their recourse and teamed up with The American Liver Foundation and later the Community Foundation of North Mississippi and many dedicated volunteers, and created an event that has become one of the largest and best attended fund-raisers in North Mississippi. Though a percentage of the proceeds continue to go the ALF in honor of local businessman and liver transplant recipient, Tim Mote, most of the monies raised remains in North Mississippi to support worthy causes, including an endowment at Northwest Mississippi Community College for the promotion of the culinary arts and the Hotel/Restaurant Management Department
