About SNAP Challenge!

The SNAP Challenge provides participants with an opportunity to understand the difficulties of hunger that millions of Americans face on a daily basis. Participants will be asked to base all their meals for a week by living on the average of the food stamp benefit. They will be challenged to complete a food shopping trip on a limited budget and also fitting nutritious meals into their normal daily schedule.

Challenge Guidelines:
1. Each participant can only spend a set amount of $34.66 ($4.95/day) for food and beverages during the Challenge Week.
2. All food purchased and eaten during the Challenge Week, including fast food and dining out, must be included in the total spending.
3. During the Challenge Week, you can only eat food that you purchase from the food shopping trip that is made. You may not eat food that you already own (with the exception of spices and condiments).
4. Avoid accepting free food from friends, family or at work to maintain the integrity of the experiment.
5. Keep track of receipts on food spending and take notes of your experiences throughout the week. This can be done by completing the spreadsheet provided and also through the use of a photo, video or written journal.
