About Walk to School Day - Starkville High

Starkville In Motion has coordinated with the City of Starkville and the Starkville City Schools to organize a Walk to School Day with Starkville High School on Thursday, April 21. The purpose for these walks is to close out the current Safe Routes to Schools grant and to raise awareness to parents/guardians and children of safe routes for walking and bicycling to their respective school.

We currently don’t have a great number of people actively involved in our organization and we are in need of volunteers to help with these events and to ensure the safety of the students participating. The volunteer positions are as follows:

Walk to School Day - Thursday, April 21
Starkville High School
Location: Starkville Sportsplex, 405 Lynn Lane
Distance: 1 mile
Volunteers meet at 7:15 a.m.
Participants meet at 7:30 a.m.
Leave at 7:45 a.m.
Local media is expected to cover the event.

Fresh fruit, water and a bag with Walk to School Day prizes will be available for all participants.

Volunteers needed - 5

(1) Greeter/Distributor
- Table set-up/break-down and clean up as needed
- Oversee distribution of goodie bags, food and water

(1) Band Instruments/Shuttle
- Provide transportation of band equipment

(1) Safety/Walk
- Walk with students/ensure safety at crosswalks

(1) Photographer
- Take plenty of photos
