About Refugee Services Housing Set-Up Volunteer
We setup apartments and houses with basic essentials for families of varying sizes. Some of the setups are single people moving in with a client that is already settled. Most of the setups go into empty apartments/houses and the average number of family members is between 3 and 4 people. However in the past we have done a family as large as 17 people.
On a usual setup we deliver everything from toothbrushes and silverware to beds and couches. Often times the apartments are on a second or third level, thus we have to haul furniture up multiple flights of stairs. Furthermore, most setups are completed by two people so in order to take everything up to the living unit, it takes many trips from truck to apartment.
We can complete 2-3 setups a day so the work is fast paced. Overall the type of work we’re looking for assistance with can be difficult, strenuous, and constant. We need all volunteers to be absolutely sure they are capable of such a work load.
