St. Luke's was founded in 1902, and provided pediatric services from the start. In 1950, the first dedicated pediatric unit opened, and in 1999, St. Luke's officially became a designated, certified children's hospital. In the past 40 years, St. Luke's Children's has grown to incorporate a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, pediatric cancer care, a Children's Specialty Center, and dedicated pediatric suites and services. St. Luke's Children's employs 175 pediatric subspecialists and over 400 dedicated pediatric caregivers.
St. Luke's Children's receives over 130,000 patient visits each year from children and families from all over Idaho, eastern Oregon, northern Nevada, Montana, and Wyoming. In addition to being the only children's hospital in Idaho, St. Luke's Children's is the most remote children's hospital in the country, so it is the farthest away from any other children's hospital. This makes it imperative to have the highest level services available to the children we care for.
At the heart of St. Luke's Children’s is the belief that all kids should have access to the highest quality and most advanced care, regardless of their condition. This belief encompasses the 65% of our pediatric patients who are uninsured or underinsured, and no child will be turned away because of their family’s inability to pay.
