Southern Friends Animal Society

About Us

We are a group of dedicated animal lovers who want to help save unwanted and uncared for animals from our local shelters.

We are a nonprofit organization rescuing local shelter pets in hopes of re-homing them. Our goal is to one day be amount the thousands of other rescue groups to help put an end to shelter euthanasia.

Southern Friends Animal Society is a non-profit organization formed to support local pets in need. Volunteers with our organization help out by fostering pets that need a temporary home while waiting for their forever home, host Adoption Events on a regular basis along with Fundraiser Events, and volunteer at our Sanctuary carrying out tasks from walking dogs, caring for cats, and general grounds keeping. Our network of volunteers work together to educate the public about the importance of spay/neuter initiatives, responsible pet ownership, prevention of diseases, and the danger to humans and pets running at large.

Southern Friends Animal Society (SFAS) was formed when Hernando Animal Shelter Friends (HASF) realized that we could help more homeless pets by broadening our organization’s focus. We are still very dedicated and concerned about the pets at the Hernando Animal Shelter and hope that the City will continue the programs that HASF implemented and maintained. We currently are a Board of four and have a volunteer network of hundreds.
