Smuin Ballet performs some 70 shows during our regular season in our home venues in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Mountain View, and Carmel. We often appear on the boards of New York City’s Joyce Theater, tour in Michael’s home state of Montana, and perform elsewhere in California, across the country, and in Europe.

Smuin Ballet also presents student shows, free community performances, special event engagements, and our Choreographers Showcase. Over 35,000 people enjoy Smuin Ballet performances every year. Smuin Ballet has launched over fifty new works into the American dance repertoire–more than forty by Michael and, to date, more than ten by Choreographer-in-Residence and rising star Amy Seiwert.

That sought-after young choreographers, such as Trey McIntyre and Ma Cong, choose Smuin to premiere their works bears witness to the company’s fine reputation. That ballet’s long-lived and brightest lights, such as Jiří Kylián and Twyla Tharp, have granted us the rights to their works is further testament to our artistic credibility.
