About Small Steps Buddy Program

Being a Buddy means having a special one-on-one friendship with a Small Steps student. A volunteer spends 30 minutes each week with his/her Small Steps Buddy, engaged in child-directed play, including games, puzzles, conversation, and other fun activities.

Many Buddy friendships last for three years of the student’s tenure although we only ask for a commitment of one school year. A 1.5 hour training in SET for Life, Small Steps’ social and emotional program, and a background check are required to be a Buddy. Buddies can visit Monday through Friday; dates and times are coordinated with the campus volunteer manager.
