About Become a Dog Team This Spring!
A Dog Team is a volunteer and their SitStayRead Certified Reading Assistance dog, who are assigned to one of three small groups of children in a program each week. They will work with one to three kids at a time, for five to seven minutes each. A Dog Team is ideal for a person who prefers a more one-on-one approach, can multi-task easily, and is able to reinforce Dog Safety, while their dog can easily adapt to sudden environmental changes, has great coping skills, and comprehends basic manners and commands.
Commitment: 1 hour and 15 minutes per week for up to 8 weeks
Training Required: Volunteer Orientation & Literacy Training, Shadow a SitStayRead Program in action,
volunteer as a Book Buddy for a minimum of 3 sessions, attend a Dog Team Information Session, & pass the Dog Team Test
Application Process
1. Fill out a Volunteer Application: http://www.sitstayread.org/volunteer-2/
2. RSVP & attend a Volunteer Orientation & Literacy Training
3. Complete & submit a SitStayRead detailed CPS Volunteer Registration Packet to Volunteer Coordinator
4. Attend a Dog Team Information Class (One time $40.00 registration fee)
5. Pass a Dog Team Test
