About Energy, Conservation & Education

SEEDS is always working in the community by providing energy assessments, volunteering in solar PV installations and spreading the word about sustainable living for a better tomorrow. Volunteer categories include:

Application Process

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, send us an email with an intro about yourself, your interest and times you are available. We will connect you with the right group to attend a meeting and get a better understanding of what your volunteer opportunity will look like. Depending on the category, volunteering will take place in various locations in Wayne, Pike, and Lackawanna Counties, as well as virtually.

We need volunteers to help with:

Energy Efficiency Assessments

Assist in the free energy efficiency assessments we provide to our members. As part of a team, you will visit a resident's home, evaluate the structure and determine what upgrades need to be made to increase energy efficiency in the building.

Solar PV Installations

SEEDS volunteers help our community members with solar PV installations, thereby reducing the service cost of installing solar PV technology. As part of the SEEDS Solar Team, you will accompany other volunteers on solar PV installations and do the physical work of installing solar PV, from roof rails to screws to the panels themselves.

Outreach Assistant

SEEDS does real hands-on work in the community, but it's not always visible to those not in the loop. As the Outreach Assistant, you will work with the Executive Director to spread the word on local energy news, SEEDS events and workshops, via social media, website, and newsletter. You will also assist in creating content by recording solar PV installations, interviewing local, sustainable businesses, and creating blog stories that touch SEEDS and our community.

Administrative Support

This is a less visible but still very important opportunity. SEEDS has been slowly digitizing it's records to reduce paper-use and make documentation reachable. As an Administrative Support volunteer, you will assist in scanning paperwork and organizing the office to make it mostly virtual. This will give flexibility for SEEDS and its volunteers to work from home and provide the confidence our organization needs to survive in an ever-changing world.
