Lydia's House of Hope

FROM HOMELESS TO WHOLENESS

A fundraising campaign for Lydia's House of Hope

Homelessness...the result of the lack of housing, generational poverty ...and various hardships. But, what about the invisible side of homelessness- the unseen tragedy that kills off one's dignity and dreams and creates hopelessness and despair? While this country has been called to action to do something about the drug epidemic that continues to destroy and take so many lives, the invisible tragedy of homelessness continues to grow with such a depth of hopelessness and despair.  Heartbroken, hopeless and homeless...those are the ones who continue to apply at Lydia's House of Hope. We can’t help but notice how young and unequipped they are, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. While we continue to see babies having babies, they arrive defeated and tired out more than ever.  Their goals? A safe place to sleep or to "just stop being homeless"! We just can’t continue to ignore this invisible problem. With such a deficit of hope, the issues facing many of the women entering LHOH are so complicated and layered with pain that they can be overwhelming and daunting.

At LHOH, our vision is to break the cycle of hopelessness and poverty that continues to spiral out of control, causing a deeper separation and more of a dependency on a fragmented system. Our goal is to start by giving them the very basics in life. If they don’t have the very basic pieces of their life put together or planned out, they can’t thrive. While creating early intervention for the children, our goal is to give them a chance to build resiliency and the competence they need to break the detrimental cycle of homelessness.

What makes Lydia's House of Hope different is we are providing a long-term solution to ending poverty and homelessness instead of a short-term fix. LHOH is more than a shelter, our focus and resources are committed to equipping homeless families with the tools necessary for resolving the underlying issues that lead to poverty and homelessness. At the heart of our program, is the recognition that overcoming issues of homelessness requires time…along with the hope and love that will help restore healthy relationships with one another as well as with their community!
