Organization History and Capacity
The Rio Grande Cancer Foundation was formed in April 1996 with proceeds from the sale of the El Paso Cancer Treatment Center, a free-standing radiation therapy center originally established in 1974 in response to the need for local cancer treatment services in the El Paso community. The original proceeds from the were $11,775,000.
Over the past twenty-two years, the Foundation has impacted the El Paso community with $10,000,000 in distributions to support cancer patients, qualified non-profits and other partners. The organization is a 501 (c)(3) public charity and is led by a voluntary board of directors of community leaders.
The Rio Grande Cancer Foundation maintains a small but effective staff of five. In order to maintain due diligence, the foundation utilizes consultants in the areas of financial and investment management, audit, public relations and marketing and technological support.
