Our Own Place

Help us provide affordable housing for adults with special needs.

A fundraising campaign for Resources for Community Living

Resources for Community Living is an organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities in their journey to achieve the amount of independence they need and desire. Housing is one of the most pressing needs of individuals we serve.

There are 168,721 disabled people in Illinois living only on SSI (Supplemental Security Income). On average their SSI is $733/month but the average monthly rent for a basic one-bedroom apartment is $893/month. That is 122% of the monthly income of a disabled person in Illinois, LEAVING NO MONEY FOR FOOD, TRANSPORTATION, CLOTHING, OR OTHER NECESSITIES.

RCL has committed to purchasing a 6-flat building near downtown Palatine to house 10 adults with developmental disabilities. RCL will provide on going support services to disabled residents such as skills training, housekeeping, financial management, transportation and social group activities.

Upon purchase of the building RCL has found out that it will need to bring the building up to the Village of Palatine’s building code. One such required upgrade is a fire suppression system or a built-in sprinkler system costing at least $10,000.

Please help us meet our goal by December 31st! Thank you.
