About Refugee Youth Initiative

The Refugee Youth Initiative (RYI) is an academic intervention program intended to support middle school-aged New Americans in meeting and surpassing grade-level performance in reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as English language proficiency.

Volunteers will assist the Program Coordinator in monitoring and assisting RISE's youngest constituents with homework, test preparation, and edutainment activities.

RYI provides volunteers a fun and exciting opportunity to meet new cultures, assist Syracuse's most disenfranchised peoples, and gain valuable teaching and coordination experience.

Sessions are held each week, matching Syracuse City School District's academic year, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

Application Process

To apply, please write a brief description of your qualifications, experience, and why you'd like to volunteer for the Refugee Youth Initiative Rebecca Miller, Director of Programs.
