About Reading to Kids monthly reading clubs

Reading to Kids organizes monthly reading clubs on the second Saturday of every month at 8 Downtown Los Angeles elementary schools. Volunteers read aloud to small groups of K-5th grade children and create arts and crafts projects about the stories.

Each child receives a book to take home and the books read aloud are donated to the school's library. Reading aloud to children imparts a love of books that leads to improved literacy, to a more successful education, and to a brighter future.

Pairs of volunteer readers read aloud to small groups of students from the elementary school (typically between 4 and 6 children per group) in a fun environment that includes creating crafts. Reading to Kids supplies all of the books and craft supplies, and teachers at the elementary schools provide supervision and guidance throughout the morning.
