Read to Succeed is a program where the organization trains Michigan State students and community members to become tutors. They are then placed at one of our ten local tutoring sites (depending on their schedules) where they will be paired with one student to tutor twice a week for an hour each session throughout the semester. These children are at-risk in reading and writing skills (reading and writing below grade level) and most of the children we tutor could not otherwise afford tutoring. Read to Succeed is not a "homework assistance" program, we are working to improve lifelong reading and writing skills. Our organization works with eight Lansing schools, one East Lansing school, and the Capital Area District Library (which is our only evening site location). Our evening site is available to Tri-County Area students who do not have Read to Succeed offered at their home school. Tutors are required to pass a background check and complete five (5) hours of tutor training provided by the Program prior to working with a student.
